Vaishali's POV -
I didn't realize when the fear started fading.
Not completely.
But enough for me to breathe.
The mansion didn't feel as overwhelming as it did this morning.
The silence wasn't heavy anymore.
It was... peaceful.
"Vaishaliiii!"
Rhea's voice echoed through the hallway before she burst into the room.
I startled slightly.
She grinned.
"Come on, we're giving you a full house tour. You can't just sit here all day like a guest."
"I...I'm fine here..." I said softly.
Kavya walked in right behind her, crossing her arms.
"Nope. Not allowed."
Before I could protest, she grabbed my hand and pulled me up.
Arya and Myra followed excitedly.
And just like that...
I was dragged out of the room.
The mansion was huge.
Beautiful.
Alive.
Rhea showed me everything with excitement, while Kavya kept teasing her non-stop.
Arya and Myra stayed close to me, as if they had already accepted me as one of their own.
And somewhere between all of that...
I smiled.
A real one.
Maybe for the first time in a long while.
Later...
I found myself alone again.
Back in the room.
Silence returned.
And so did my thoughts.
Marriage.
My chest tightened.
Why did he say that?
Why me?
Everyone accepted me so easily.
Too easily.
Because of him.
Not because of me.
That truth...
It hurt.
Evening came slowly.
And with it...He returned.
Rudraksh's POV-
The moment I stepped into the mansion...
Everything fell into place.
Silence.Control.Order.
Exactly how it should be.
But then - My eyes found her.
Standing near the staircase.
For a second - Nothing else mattered.
She looked... different.
Softer.
Less afraid.
And something inside me settled.
I walked toward her.
Slow.
Steady.
The moment she saw me...
Her body tensed.
Her fingers curled slightly.
Fear.
Still there.
I stopped in front of her.
"Did you eat?" I asked.
She nodded quickly.
"Yes..."
Silence.
Then. . .
"Why me?"
The question was sudden.
Unexpected.
But I didn't react.
"Why did you choose me?" she asked again, her voice softer now, but steady.
I looked at her.
"Because I wanted to."
Her brows furrowed.
"That's not an answer."
"It is for me."
She shook her head slightly.
"You can't just decide my life like this..."
There it was.
Resistance.
Small.
Fragile.
But real.
I stepped closer.
Slowly.
"You're safe here," I said quietly.
"That doesn't answer my question," she whispered.
"It's the only answer that matters."
My voice was calm.
Firm.
Unquestionable.
Vaishali's POV -
I didn't understand him.
He made things feel simple.
When they weren't.
My chest felt tight again.
Too many emotions.
Too many thoughts.
Too much... everything.
"You don't understand," I said softly.
His gaze didn't move.
"Then make me understand."
That broke something in me.
Because how do you explain a life filled with fear...
To someone who has always been in control?
"I'm not used to this..." my voice trembled.
"I'm not used to people caring... or... staying..."
My words slowly faded...My vision blurred...
"I don't know how to be here..." I whispered.
Silence.
For a second -
I thought he would say something.
Something firm.Something certain.
But he didn't.
He just... stood there.
Watching me.
And suddenly...
I couldn't take it anymore.
The fear.
The confusion.
The warmth.
The way everything felt too good to be real.
Before I could think or before I could stop myself...
I stepped forward.
And hugged him.
Tightly.
Like I was holding onto the only thing keeping me steady.
Rudraksh's POV -
For a second. . . I froze.
Completely.
Her arms around me.
Her face buried against my chest.
Her fingers clutching my shirt like she was afraid I would disappear.
This wasn't planned.
This wasn't controlled.
This was... her.
And something inside me shifted again.
Deeper this time.
My hand slowly lifted.
Hovered in the air for a second.
Then rested gently on her back.
Careful.Measured.
But not distant.
I could feel her trembling.
"Why?" she whispered softly against me.
And for the first time... I didn't have an immediate answer.
Vaishali's POV -
I didn't know why I did that.
I didn't think.
I didn't plan.
I just...
Needed something real.
And in that moment...
He felt real.
His hand rested on my back.
Warm.Steady.
Not pushing me away.
Not pulling me closer either.
Just... there.
"I'm scared," I admitted quietly.
The words felt heavy.
But true.
He didn't move.
Didn't interrupt.
"I don't understand anything... but I don't want to lose this either..."
My grip tightened slightly.
And that's when...
I realized what I had done.
I pulled back immediately.
Stepping away.
Embarrassed.
"I'm sorry... I didn't mean to.."
Before I could finish
He spoke.
"Don't."
I looked up.
His gaze was steady but softer than before.
Rudraksh's POV -
She stepped back.
Apologizing.
As if she did something wrong.
I didn't like that.
"Don't," I repeated.
She went silent.
I looked at her for a moment.
Then said quietly..
"You don't have to understand everything right now."
Her eyes searched mine.
"But you don't have to be afraid either."
My voice wasn't harsh.
Not controlling.
Just... certain.
I stepped back.
Giving her space.
Because this... whatever this was...
It needed time
...
...
That night...
Vaishali stood near the window again.
But this time..
Something was different.
The fear wasn't the same.
It was mixed with something else.
Something unfamiliar.
Something she couldn't name yet.
SOMEWHERE
Far away...
A phone screen lit up in the darkness.
A message appeared.
"So she survived..."
Another message followed
"And now she's under his protection."
A pause.
Then...
A slow, dangerous smile.
"Let's see how long that lasts."
